My Beach Bag Essentials

Let’s be honest, I’m not a simple girl & neither is what’s in my target beach bag!

20140729-084646-31606070.jpg

1) This little section is the most important, obviously….
Emi-jay headband and hair tie are needed for any type of hair change through out the day.
EOS lipblam, because it’s the best. Vintage dolce & gabanna sunglasses (were talking circa 2005 people, a classic aviator).
Anker portable iPhone charger, which I advise everyone to own and you can get it on Amazon, as a 24/7 iPhone addict, I can personally tell you how perfect it is.
And last but not least, my young blood lipstick in “debalicious”. I’m a total lipstick girl through and through and if lipstick on the beach is wrong, I don’t wana be right! You can purchase young blood at H2O or online somewhere!

2) Some kind of sunscreen…. This is kinda irrelevant because I will forget to put it on throughout the day & get sunburned as hell, but do as I say not as I do (Apply this in most life cases).

3) Let’s discuss my reading habits, as far as I’m concerned cosmopolitan is the bible. I’ve probably read every single one front to back since 2004 and it’s the only thing I get in the mail (besides hautelook packages) that makes my face light up – big girl bills blow! Secondly, two words, BRANDI GLANVILLE…. A girl after my own heart, (read the book or watch her on RHOBH and you’ll quickly realize our similarities for the love of a certain curse word…Although I’m working on not using it so much). Her first book “drinking & tweeting” made me laugh like no other and her second “drinking & dating” undoubtably had the same effect.

4) A hairdresser isn’t a hairdresser if she doesn’t bring products to the beach! Kérastase’s nectar thermique (a moisturizing heat protectant, applied post nasty saltwater) and elixir ultime (a leave in beautifying oil, can be applied on wet or dry hair) are a must in the sun for this blondies dry hair!

5) Tkees, the ultimate throw on (non-tacky) flip flop.

6) Chocolate teddy grams. Yes I’m 26 years old, but at 4 ww points for 24 pieces My sweet tooth is pretty satisfied by these guys.

7) About a year ago I found a cream cover up like this at forever 21, I’m not one to love going to the mall but when I ran there last week I saw this yellow one! When I saw it I had to grab it, they are great to throw on & are so freakin cute! You can find it Here

To Shampoo Or Not To Shampoo?!

Okay so here’s the deal, YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO SHAMPOO EVERY DAY! I’m sure you’ve all heard it countless times, over and over again, your hair needs it’s natural oils! So many women have reasons why they want to, some go run for hours and there hair gets all yucky, so understandable there, and some are nurses which by all means wash away because I could not deal, however the days you may not work or the days you aren’t going for a insane run, give your hair a break! Ideally, every other day or two days is perfect!

I personally wash my hair about once to twice a week, some of you are probably like, whattttttt the helllllll?! But my hair neverrr gets oily and let’s be honest if we want our hair to be as big as Bridget Bardot’s, clean hair ain’t doing us any favors! If your like some of my fabulous OCD clients that don’t listen to me and still want to wash everyday, a dry shampoo should be your best friend, use one day to hold you over and shampoo the next!

Dry shampoos are amazeeee, literally all you do Is spray a little on the root, tousle it with your hands and all done!! However, they are not all created equal! I like ones that are light and blend into the hair easily! Here’s my good old favorite “psssst” that can be found at Target, Walgreens or Sally’s (that I know of) & my fabulous/all time new found favorite “powder bluff” by kèrastase, that can be found at H2O… And Chelsey told you to buy it ; )

image

Side note about kèrastase’s powder bluff, it’s the best and it also doubles as a great styling tool! I’ll spray it in my hair after I wash and blow dry to give my hair extra volume and texture!

Before Your Next Appointment

Going in to get your hair done whether
it be for a big change or a small touch up should always be fun. Stylists want you to love your hair! We want you to look and feel fabulous when you leave our chair, or for me personally, my job isn’t done! A stylist should ALWAYS, always do a consultation with you. Sometimes with the hustle and bustle of a busy salon even the best stylists may have some of these slip her mind! So, incase it does, here’s some things to keep in mind when you go into your next monthly/weekly or for some of you bad girls, yearly salon visit!

image

1) We want YOU to be happy

Your hair appointment is about you, it’s your hair on your head after all! Be specific- I have so many clients that sit in my chair and say things like “I’m sorry if that was too much info”. NO WAY! Use all the detail you want, a good stylist will repeat things back to you, show you lengths before she cuts and will make sure you’ll be comfortable with what she does before she does it!

2) Tell us about your routine

Are you high maintenance or low maintenance? How much time do you want to spend on styling you hair each day?! It’s important to realize you need to choose something you will be able to recreate easily with your day to day routine, if you have no time to fix your hair and run out the door everyday a short structured bob that you need to style every day probably isn’t your best bet or you’ll just end up frustrated!

3) Bring pictures

I love for my clients to bring or pull up a picture in my chair, it can show me exactly what color or cut your going for! Your image of what a “caramel highlight” is may be totally different from my caramel, or what you picture being a long bob could be 3 inches shorter then the long bob I’m picturing, so having a example makes things so much easier. Bring a few point out what you love about this one and what you don’t love about that one.

With that being said, however, sometimes pictures can also create a smallll issue. Here’s some things to remember before you show your picture to a stylist. Most celebrities have extensions and/or just had their hair styled for hours before that picture was taken so make sure your being realistic when talking to your stylist. I’ll never forget something I learned in hair school, some people pull up a picture of let’s say Khloe kardashain’s hair and subconsciously aren’t really even looking at her hair!!! I’ll have so many clients stare at a picture and say yes just like this but no golden or no this and that, and I’m thinking to myself this is totally gold to me, as soon as you cover Khloe’s face and ask what they like about it then, it’s amazing how many people will say, well nothing. Hehehe! Moral of the story, make sure you like the chicks hair and aren’t just liking the chicks whole package! I can give you Khloe’s hair but not her face ; )

4) TRUST OUR KNOWLEDGE & Work with what god gave ya

I can’t stress this enough, I want to give you EXACTLY what your showing me but all within reason! If I tell you your hair can’t be styled that way with that cut, it’s because it really can’t, you have to be realistic! I.E. If your hair is super straight and your showing me some one with super curly ringlets, It. Ain’t. Happening. Embrace and work with what you have and that’s how your hair will truly look it’s best!

If I tell you “no” or “that’s not happening today” it’s for a reason. Believe me I’d love to take you from brown to blonde in a day, but It’s also more important to me that your hair stay healthy and most of the time, unless your blessed, those two things don’t go hand in hand! If you want to make a big change Sometimes it can take about 2-3 visits so, be patient and realize your stylist will get you there as fast as she can without letting you walk out looking cray or worse, with less hair then you came in with!

5) Schedule Correctly

This is a big deal too! At my salon we work on a tighttttt schedule, H2O is kinda known for busting some super gorgeous hair out without taking up your whole day. For instance, while my color client processes and gets shampooed I’ve done a haircut or color in between. With that being said it’s important to be clear about what your getting done when you scheduled your appointment. If you have a tonnnnnnn of hair mention it to the receptionist so she is able to book extra time. Touching up just your roots or putting on a whole head of color is different timing too so if you say that when you call it can be helpful to your stylist! If your trying to make a big change or have a color correction service, be honest, sometimes I have little sneakers that realize they can get in for another week so they will book a regular appointment, your only jacking up yourself because since I’m so bosssssy I will tell you we don’t have enough time for that today and if you want that done I need the time to do it correctly!

Bottom line, is you want to have the correct time to get the full experience out of your appointment!

Happy consultations people!

Balsamic Green Beans

So I know I never said this blog was about cooking butttttt, I make the rules here anyway right ; ) Anyone who knows me knows fruits and veggies aren’t my favorite, if this chick is eating them, they better be super yummy! Right now I’m doing weight watchers, which for those of you who are wondering about it, it’s literally the first thing I have tried that I’ve seen consistent results. So anyway back to this, when I’m trying to be a good girl during the week it’s a lot of veggies and meat, no salt and if it takes longer then 30 minutes to make, I don’t have time for it! This green bean recipe is amazingggg and easy, soooo your welcome sistas!

image

Balsamic Green Beans

• 1 T. Butter
• 1 yellow & red onion, sliced
• However much minced garlic you want.
• 1/2 C. Sodium free beef broth
• 4 C. Trimmed green beans
• 2 T. Balsamic vinegar
• Salt & Pepper to taste (or in my case, Mrs. Dash table blend, for those who are like what the hell is that? Mrs. Dash is a sodium free line of spices.)
• shaved almonds

Melt 1 tsp. butter in pan, add onions and sauté for 6 minutes. Add garlic; cook for 30 seconds. Add beef broth and cook until onions and tender and the broth is almost dissolved. Stir in green beans and balsamic. Cover and cook until the green beans are crisp/tender. Add your seasoningg & shaved almonds!

My Top 3 Drugstore Goodies!

Every time I make my eckerd’s runs (yes, I still refer to cvs or rite-aid as eckerd’s. Everyone tells me it doesn’t exists anymore but it’s stuck in my vocabulary forever so we’ll roll with it) I’m usually only there to get the same 5 things, birth control (just being honest), orbit pink bubble gum, orrrr these three fabulous things…..pick them up next time your there and you’ll thank me later, I promise!

image

First on the list is “Say yes to cucumber” face wipes. Several make-up artists I know are huge fans of these wipes and they keep getting voted best of beauty by allure magazine! This line, which is really “Say yes to carrots”, has a few different wipes for different skin types but the cucumber is for sensitive skin. I know people will gasp and think its terrible when I say I’ve never used face wash butttttt it makes my skin wigg out! I was totally a washcloth and dove soap kinda girl until I found these AMAZING things! They make taking off eye make-up a breeze, the cucumber is soothing on your skin and they aren’t too fragrant!

Second is L’Oreal “false fiber lashes” mascara. Normally I’m an eyelash extension addict, shocking, I know ; ) However at this moment in time I’m currently on lash probation, and when that happens I turn to this! I love this mascara because it doesn’t get clumpy and with every pass your lashes get longer & longer, what girlie girl doesn’t love that!?

And last but definitely not least, third on my list is Maybelline “Define-A-Brow” Pencil. Let’s face it, brows are a big deal right now, so this thing is seriously the best, it’s easy and convenient for those of us that aren’t make-up pros! The feel of this is almost wax-ish-y and the comb on the end totally aids in shaping them the way you want!

The enddddd

Mantle make-over

When my husband and I purchased our gutted Katrina home there were for sure a few issues I had, like the fact that my stepdad would later have to take a couple feet out of our living room to make my closet something I could work with (Id be spending more time in there anyway, It was a no brainer which room was more important). And also the fact that I had no fire place! I couldn’t deal! Where would I hang my Christmas stockings?! Were talking about real life problems here people ;p

My fabulous work husband Dane ended up giving me a mantle as my wedding present (The loubies I kept asking him for just weren’t happening). We hung the mantle, had someone come and faux finish it to look like a stone-ishh affect and I waited a few months while I contemplated what would be the best thing to do with it since I knew I didn’t love just seeing it so plain. I definitely think it doesn’t hurt to live in a space for a little while before you go off buying things just to buy them.

Wallpaper was my answer and it’s for sure making a come back! They have so many patterns and textures right now, and you can totally transform a room with the right pattern and placement! Putting up the wallpaper was easier then I thought, granted I only did a super small section :/ I found a white wash brick wallpaper online, watched a few utube videos and got to work! With the wallpaper, a fireplace screen, and a few white birch logs I found on etsy, I’m loving it!!

Over the weekend….

BRILEY BRUNCHIN’

One of my best friends Michelle is a bride to beee, so all of her amazing bridesmaids threw her a small brunch to get together and talk party dates! The spread was super adorable, so simple, and actually didn’t break the bank!

We had donuts for days and a cute mimosa bar! I love using mason jars for decoration because they are perfect for anything! Drinks, food, flowers, or utensils! A lot of my server wear is either from tj maxx or zgallerie! I swear, if you go to tj maxs and you can find a so cute cake stand, it’s worth your while to snag it! Basically every time I go they have at least one or two!

The chicken and waffles were mini-eggos and chick-fil-a nuggets, so easy & so yummy! The pancake stacks I poured using a small measuring spoon and the french toast sticks were actually in the freezer isle, we served them with syrup to dip in!

KIMONOS & CROP TOPS

First and foremost, let’s start with the crop top issue, Seriously they are adorable, but they have to be worn correctly! I’m a curvy girl so I have to find the perfect fitting ones that hit the right spot on my body or they can end up doing absolutely nothing for me! I will always pair a crop top with something high-waisted and I think most of the rest of the population should stick with that rule too, justt saying!

Kimonos are so in right now and I’m loving this one I got from Bella Bella on Metairie rd. They are right next to the salon, so I’ll sneak over there a good bit in between clients ; ) I paired it with high-waisted floral shorts for a more night time look, but went with wedges instead of heels to still keep it on the casual side!

Here goes nothinnnn’

Hi to all who happened to click on my website & welcome to my little blog! A few months ago my dad needed to brush up on building some websites & asked if he could build me one for hair, he could practice and I could build my business, naturally as we daughters do, I told my dad “that’s lame” and naturally as parents are, he was RIGHT. The website was a good idea and got a little bit more attention then I thought. So, I’ve decided why not take advantage of it!

Ever since I can remember I wanted to follow In my momma’s footsteps, it was pretty clear when all my barbies had botched up haircuts that I was destined to be a cosmetologist ; ) Needless to say my haircuts have vastly improved from the Barbie days and I’ve been at H2O salon and spa on Metairie rd for a little over 6 years now. I can’t describe how much I love my career, the coworkers I have and the clients I get the pleasure of working with everyday! I love making people look and feel amazing! The saying is true “love your job and you’ll never work a day in your life”.

With the encouragement of some of my clients, family & friends, I’ve created this blog for all of us that love some sexy hair, a fabulous outfit & the feeling we get when we find that perfect finishing touch to our living room :p I’m a total feminist, Women are amazing! No offense to men, but now a days some women do it all, they play every role & the average girl wants that to be as easy for them as it can be and look good while doing it! We can all use a little tip or trick here or there to make our lives easier! All that being said, here goes nothing! Any of you beauty’s feel free to let me know if there’s anything in particular you want to see!
