Hey yall, its been forever – my usual opening response on here! Life’s been crazy (another normal statement in my opening) and I’ve had a lot of big amazing changes going on! I’ve recently moved and things are starting to settle in, so with my new normal routine starting to come together I really plan to take some time each week to get back into posting regularly or even more than regularly for me because I would love to share more hair, fashion, food & home decorating/diy things with you guys!

Anyway, with all that being said, lets cut to it get to the main attraction!

I have FINALLY got it together & officially made a #CHELSEYCURLS TUTORIAL, with the help of the H2O team of course! Getting it on my website however has been a little sketchy, so for some reason you have to CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO VIEW and it will pop up on your phone!

Roasted chickpeas

I know the main purpose of this blog was to focus on hair, even still, y’all know I can’t help but share yummy recipes!! Snacking on roasted chickpeas is obviously better than grabbing a bag of chips, plus they are quick, easy & so good (I wonder how many times I’ve typed that exact line on other posts pahaha) anyway, leaving you guys with the instructions/recipe down below.

First preheat your oven to roast 425•

Open, rinse & drain 2 cans of garbanzo beans. Place them on a paper towel, blot well and allow to dry in open air for about 10 minutes. Then get yourself a big bowl and combine the beans with all of the following ingredients.

  • 2 tbsp EVOO
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic power
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Cayenne pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

Place chickpeas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and pop into the oven anywhere between 20-30 minutes, checking frequently and giving the pan a small shake to move them around a bit (I say small shake so yours don’t end up all over the bottom of the oven like mine did).

Remove from oven and add 1/2 tsp sea salt and a little more spices if you like, here I added a few more sprinkles of chili powder and cayenne!

thennn, lastly – enjoy! They are the best when they are right out of the oven and all warm!

Sausage, white bean, & kale soup!

Sharing this yummmy & quickkkk (the most important part) soup with you guys! This should come in handy since the temperature decided to drop today and that groundhog saw its shadow!!

Now ya’ll know I barely measure anything and just add season to taste so bare with me – I pretty much give y’all a base for a recipe and there’s always room to make it your own!

So here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon EVOO
  • About 3/4ths cup of the holy trinity
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 48oz of chicken stock (box and 1/2)
  • 2 15oz cans of white beans
  • 1 medium (thickly) chopped onion
  • 1 bunch of kale leaves pulled from the stem and chopped to your liking
  • Italian or Cajun spicy chicken/pork sausage, again, the type & how much is your preference.

Season to your taste with:

  • Tony’s, cracked pepper,  Italian seasoning, cayenne pepper, and garlic salt.

Side note: you can obviously use dry white beans and soak them overnight but this time I was using canned for time purposes! I prefer not to, but when I do I make sure to put the beans in a strainer and rinse very well…The juices canned stuff sits in freaks me out!

First, I throw my sausage or chicken sausage in the pan and get it browned then I remove it and set it aside. In the same pan I throw my holy trinity and chopped onions into a tablespoon of heated EVOO, I allow this to cook until unions get tender and see-through. Then I add my minced garlic and sauté for about 3 more minutes before adding my two cans of drained white beans. Once my beans are all mixed in I add my seasoning and continue to try to smush some of the beans to get a little bit of that creamy texture.

Once everything’s all in there and mixed well I throw my sausage back in and add my 48oz of chicken broth. The last thing to go in is your kale, this cooks down fairly quick and after I see it’s wilted I put at medium to low heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes to get all the flavors going!

I tend to eat this just on its own for the most part but I have served over rice a time or two just to make it a little more filling if I’m feeding the boyfriend or friends!

Happy soup eating people!

New year, Same traditions

Ummm, I can’t believe we’re in the middle of January already! Happy late new year people! I figured I’d share with you guys a little family tradition of mine, that helps put a focus on all your dreams/goals/plans for the future – both big & small!

I was always raised to stay focused on the bigger and better things to come, having goals and visions for what you want out of your life! I don’t remember how long it’s been now but every year sometime in the month of January my family gets together and has a night where we create “dream boards” aka “vision boards” whatever you want to call them! They are made to put in a place you’re in frequently, (mines in my closet because I obviously go in there everyday to do my make-up and hair) so you see it everyday.

We get out a white poster-board and sit around with a billllionnnn magazines, scissors, tape, glue and go to town cutting out and pasting anything that motivates or inspires us! Any goals at work, home or in your relationships with others! Things you want to look at everyday, and reminders of certain things that make you feel good! Some people have 5 things on their board and some have 50, sometimes I have the same things on my board a few years in a row! My dream vacation is to go to Greece so that’s on my board every year until I get my booty there, every year I promise I’ll clean up my bad mouth (again, still working on that as well) and everyyyy year, as most of us women do, I’ll promise myself I’ll have my best body ever!

The main thing here is that there are no rules, and seeing your dreams/goals everyday really can help you be more focused on those things and be more intentional. My last word of advice is that if you’re anal like me, you should lay things out on your board till you get it justttt right, and then glue! It’s an extra step but it’s worth it for your sanity!

Wishing everyone a great start to 2017

Quick bobby tips

For any of my sistas that have trouble getting their bobby pins to stay – did you know you can give them a little grip by spraying them with either a dry shampoo or an aerosol hairspray? If that’s not cutting it make sure the side of the bobby pin that has ridges is the one that’s going against your scalp, the straighter side is slicker and won’t grip as well!

Also, when putting hair half-up/half-down two bobbys are more then sufficient. Inserting the bobby pins in and “X” shape and interlocking the ridges make it even more secure then a pony which will tend to slip!

Deer Antler Tablescapes

Merry Christmas people!! Incase anyone is bored tonight and needs something to read while they are laying in bed all stuffed I decided I’d post a blog! Everyone loves deer antlers, especially when they are fake and no sweet animals were hurt in the making! These look so cute on the table for center pieces or use just one for decoration somewhere in the house!

These are super easy, I ordered two types of antlers from amazon that you can find here and here. Then I sprayed them with a chalky finish spray paint in white which can be found here or at lowes\home depot! The trick to spraying them and having them still look natural is to hold the spray paint further away and almost try to just mist it in certain spots, (your trying to make little bits of brown still come through).

I’ve used these for both my fall tablescape and now Christmas and have gotten a ton of complaints. I place greenery around them that you can get from any craft store and call it a day!

L O V E DIY

So it’s been a crazy few months, I always mean to blog but normally find myself pushing it back in loo of other things! I think I’ve officially decided I’ll just do this when fun things happen and not put any promises out there since we all I’ll probably be into this for like a few weeks and then another blog won’t come for a few months lol!

Anyway with Christmas this week and New Years next I thought I’d share some DIY decorations I’ve done lately, so check your emails because I’ll be posting other stuff later in the week! I know it’s a little late in the game to pull this out now but the first one is really simple and quick if anyone’s having people over for any upcoming holiday celebrations and is looking for some extra cute decorations!!

I used this for a shower I threw back in August! It’s so simple and I love it because the options are endless! Anyone that knows me knows white, silver and gold are normally my go to colors but this would be so cute with pinks or blues for a baby shower or silver/gold with red flowers for Christmas! If you aren’t into flowers glittering one letter would be just as cute, maybe all gold letters with a silver or white glitter letter as the accent?!

Even if you don’t want to add flowers I recently picked up letters for a girlfriend that spelled out JOY and sprayed them gold! Even by themselves it’s super cute – and cheap, which is a win, win! Im sharing with you guys what you’ll need and where to get it below!

The letters you can get here from hobby lobby, they are 8″ but have bigger which I’ve also used for showers or events. They are paper mache and stand up without any issues (the only one I’ve ever had a problem with a is a “j”).

My favorite gold spray paint to use the Krylon foil metallic gold – for anything, ever! It’s the best looking that I’ve tried so far! And trust me, I’ve bought a tonnnnn of spray paint! This I’m sure can be found anywhere but here’s a picture and the link to order online at hobby lobby! If you’re choosing to add flowers to your letters you’ll need any type of florals you like that are a smaller size, these obviously can be found at any craft store! You’ll want to detach the flower clusters from the stems and you’ll need a hot glue gun and a X-Acto knife

First you’ll want to take your letters outside, FAR AWAY from anything you don’t want to get spray paint on (this stuff travels and I always have problems with it getting on my freaking concrete, or fence, or maybe my boyfriends boat cover, pahaha! You get it!) Spray, let dry and spray the other side, repeat until all covered! Then you’re going to use the x-acto knife to cut into one side of whichever letter you choose to have floral. Trace the letter with the knife until you can remove that whole side. Once finished it should look like the picture below. (The letters have some ribbing that I removed, and then glued back in place, to make for easier placement with the flowers)

All that’s left is to glue your flowers, let dry and voilaaaaaa – that’s a wrap!

So cute, soooo easy & all for around $25!

Merry, Joy, cheers and even 2017 would be perfect for any party’s or just for decoration around the house if you guys need any ideas!

Happy word making people!
